    1. Thanks for asking! It was a plain white canvas when I started. I used acrylic paints and basic paint brushes that you could you get at any craft store. For the background, I started out by painting it a solid dark blue color. I then mixed even darker blues with streaks of light blue, purple, and black using short choppy strokes. Make sure these strokes are going in more of a left to right and circular direction to give the effect of clouds. Wait until the background dries to start on the volcano. For the volcano, I started out with a basic brown layer to form the shape. After the volcano was in the cone shape that I wanted, I started adding layers of red, orange, and lighter browns. Make sure to use longer up and down strokes that follow the downward direction that lava would flow. The volcano splatters were simply from slinging the paint brush... I typically am a perfectionist and a very "neat" painter so on this one I was really trying to just be messy. Don't be afraid to let go and mess up, because sometimes messier paintings turn out looking really cool. Happy painting!
